Therapeutic Process

Our connection starts with the first telephone call.  I am interested in hearing what is happening in your life that leads you to consider counseling.  I will ask you some questions to help me understand the overall situation.  You are also free to ask me any questions that might help you determine if you would like to schedule an appointment.  If it feels right for both of us, we will arrange a time to meet for a face to face session in my office.

At our first session, I will get more information about what is concerning you.  Oftentimes, there may be more than one issue.  We will go over your goals and I will help you prioritize what is most important at this time.  Together, we will begin the process of developing a trusting rapport between us.

Sometimes people only need brief, short-term, solution focused therapy to address something in just a few sessions.  Others may need more time to fully address their issues.  How long will it take to feel better or to resolve the issue?  It’s a different time frame for everyone, but I find that most people are able to find some relief to their problems within a few months.

Effective therapy happens in an environment of shared trust, emotional safety and physical comfort.  My goal is to create a space where you can share freely and be true to yourself.  Many clients often comment on how comfortable and safe my office feels.

My main focus is to listen to you so that I can fully understand how I can best help you.  I may make suggestions or provide opportunities to explore something in a new way, but you are always in charge of what happens.  We will work as a team to collaborate together so that ultimately, the transformation belongs to you.
